Biodegradability
Our ponchos are different. Very different.
The Bio Rain Poncho uniquely has a C02 neutral and methane-free breakdown (i.e. it's not heating up the planet). Plus, the vegetable-based inks we use are water-based, pollutant-free, odour-free & environmentally harmless.
And after you're done staying dry, within 8 - 12 weeks (slightly longer under home compost conditions) the poncho will have returned to natural, renewable, organic and fertile compost. How about that.
The bio poncho has the "OK Compost" seal of approval from the Austria's TUV institute, based on standard DIN EN 13432.
Ocean Safe
Should your poncho somehow end up in the ocean (let's face it, it happens) it's great to know it won't cause environmental damage.
Under the European EC ETV pilot programme, ocean biodegradability of 35 - 39 weeks has been tested and confirmed, returning to natural, renewable and organic material.
Footprint
The raw materials for our poncho, namely MaterBi®, is sourced from the pioneering Italian firm, Novamont. Grown under strict regulation from the EU, it's also GM-free.
Our manufacturing site has also now moved from the Far-East to Europe. Thus, freight distance, cost and also production time has drastically reduced.
Lifespan
Although designed as a disposable, the Bio Poncho can be reused multiple times. Simply dry out, repack and store in a warm and dry place away from direct sunlight.
The poncho is designed to have a shelf life of up to 2 years. After which, a slow and natural composting process will occur.
